Tilson Tuesdays, Waid Thompson

For this week’s Tilson Tuesdays employee spotlight, meet Waid Thompson!

Waid currently serves as Tilson’s Director of Wireless Operations but has worked in a variety of roles across Tilson. He first joined Tilson as part of our Project Management team before he transitioned to our User Experience group. From there, Waid was promoted this past November to become the Director of Wireless Operations. The years of telecom experience he brings to Tilson combined with time working across our internal teams all help make him a more effective leader. In this role, Waid supports construction and site development teams across the country with project start up, training efforts, systems, and processes. He is also responsible for ensuring accurate data to drive strategic decision making on the Wireless team.

Due to several promotions across departments, Waid has a unique perspective into the broader Tilson culture and noted that “the culture remains the same across the teams – each manager and leadership invested in my success, wellbeing, and happiness. The consistency of culture made the transitions between teams seamless and stress free.”

Another facet of Tilson’s culture that Waid is thankful for is the positive work/life balance he’s experienced in all of his roles. This is especially important for Waid who is always on the go with his wife, two dogs, and four children, the youngest of which was just welcomed into the world this past December (congrats!). When his daughter was born, Waid was able to use Tilson’s industry-leading paid parental leave to spend quality time with his growing family.

Outside of work, Waid also enjoys being the coach for his oldest son’s little league baseball team, coaching a team of a dozen 12-year-olds. His family’s favorite night of the week is family pizza night, when Waid makes homemade wood fired pizzas. He is firmly on the side that pineapple deserves to be on pizza; his favorite toppings are jalapenos, pineapples, and pepperoni.

Fun fact: Waid does much of the woodworking for the furniture and décor in his home. He built his family’s dining table, coffee table, porch swing, and an oversized dog kennel. His first woodworking project was a dining room table with his dad when he was 25 and loves that he can build something that his entire family can circle around for dinner every night.

Thank you, Waid, for bringing your positive attitude and your energy to the Tilson team!
