In honor of Veterans Day, this month we’re featuring a few of our veteran team members for our Tilson Tuesdays employee highlight. This week, meet Robert Boydston!
Robert is a Marine who served from 1977-1981 as a helicopter mechanic. He recently joined Tilson as an Outside Plant (OSP) Supervisor in our Arizona market. In his role, Robert oversees subcontractors and project operations as part of our large-scale fiber deployment project in Arizona. While the civilian sector is very different from Marine life, Robert says the teamwork and problem-solving skills he learned in the Marines are useful and applicable to his work at Tilson.
Tilson’s work in Arizona has expanded rapidly this year, meaning that like Robert, many on his crew are new to Tilson. “This is a great experience. We’re able to grow as a team as we hone the processes and understand the inner workings of the company together,” Robert said. “We are building a team able to tackle any obstacle and work together.”
Robert added, “I have met several other Marines at Tilson, and I’m always interested in hearing their stories.” As a veteran-led company, Tilson strives to hire transitioning service members and veterans as they pursue their careers. Through internship programs like SkillBridge, Tilson is always looking to hire those that serve and have served our country.
A self-described “military brat,” serving in the Armed Forces runs in Robert’s family. Growing up, he was always traveling with his family and that love of visiting new sites continues to this day. He has been to 46 of the 50 states and to 14 other countries. He enjoys taking trips to national parks and going for rides on his Harley. Robert also likes experiencing new movies, concerts, restaurants, and breweries.
Fun fact: Robert lived in Japan for four years as a kid.
