Tilson Tuesdays, Maria Millard

For this week’s #tilsontuesdays employee highlight, meet Maria!

Maria is a Broadband Consultant on Tilson’s Telecom Consulting team, where she works with state governments to help them apply for and implement federal broadband programs. Recently, Maria has been supporting the Rasmuson Foundation, a private family foundation working to promote a better life for Alaskans, with creating Alaska’s Digital Equity planning process. Learn more about Tilson’s broadband consultant services.

“I feel incredibly lucky to be at Tilson,” said Maria. “Good leadership comes from the top, and Tilson couldn’t be run by a better team of leaders with clearly communicated values. While the company may be SCRAPI (focused on Safety, Composure, Respect, Accountability, Professionalism, and Integrity), my team is cool, calm, and collected.”

Regarding working in broadband consulting, Maria said, “This is a historic time to be in the broadband world. We have the opportunity to expand access to high-speed internet, and the skills needed to use it will positively impact generations to come. I’m excited to create structures, systems, and programs in state governments that support diverse populations in accessing and using the internet for remote healthcare, education, and work.”

Outside of work, Maria enjoys playing and coaching soccer in Belfast, Maine, where she lives with her 5-year-old son. Although she spent most of her childhood in Maine, Maria lived in Zimbabwe as a child for several years. Her favorite food is Indian, her favorite book is Essentialism, the Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown, and her favorite tv shows are Insecure and Inventing Anna.

Fun fact: As a kid, Maria was fluent in Shona, which is one of sixteen languages in Zimbabwe.

Thank you, Maria, for all your hard work and expertise. We’re so grateful to have you on the team!
