In honor of Veterans Day, all month long we’re featuring a few of our veteran team members for our Tilson Tuesdays employee highlight. This week, meet Margo Pierson!
Margo is a U.S. Army, Signal Corps veteran who served for three years. During her time, she worked as a 31F-Network Switching Systems Operator and Maintainer. In this role, she worked on communication networks and provided an encrypted telephone network using what are called line of sight (LoS) antennas.
Margo credits her experience in the Army for opening the door and building her career. She has worked in the telecom industry ever since transitioning back to a civilian role in 2000. At Tilson, Margo is an ESS Engineering Project Manager, where she acts as a liaison between our engineering team and our clients to make sure projects are on schedule and on budget.
For Margo, the military “provided discipline, focus, and experience that you cannot necessarily get elsewhere,” and we agree! Service members have valuable skills that translate well to civilian jobs. We go out of our way to hire those transitioning to the civil sector and help them become successful in their new careers. This transition can be difficult, however, and Margo shared several tips that she believes will help others along this journey:
Regarding being a veteran at Tilson, Margo says, “I appreciate the focus and pride Tilson takes hiring veterans. They are very supportive!”
Outside of work, Margo enjoys watching movies (especially horror), seeing theater plays and shows, going for hikes, and spoiling her two French bulldogs. Currently living in Texas, Margo is originally from Portland, Oregon and continues to cheer on the Portland Blazers.
Fun fact: Margo is a huge Disney fan! Her son works at Disneyland so she is lucky to have an excuse to make frequent visits.
