The Seneca Nation is a federally recognized tribal nation consisting of five territories over approximately 54,000 acres in Western New York. The Allegany territory, also referred to as the Steamburg Community, encompass approximately 30 square miles with a population of around 1,000, 7 commercial buildings, and 8 government facilities.
To support its initiative of deploying a new, fiber broadband network capable of offering speeds of up to 1GBPS to the entire Steamburg Community, Seneca needed a reliable consulting and design firm to design a robust network, with specific standards allowing for a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) to all locations within Steamburg.
Tilson was selected to engage as the consultant and engineer supporting the development and deployment of the proposed network. Tilson designed and engineered full constructible prints to efficiently serve all premises in the region providing industry leading high speed connectivity to all residents and business in the community. The project was designed with reliability and scalability in mind, allowing for accommodations in technology advancements throughout the network’s lifetime.
Tilson also led the pole-application, permitting, and make-ready management tasks necessary for implementation of the designed network. Finally, Tilson acted as expert consultant, identifying and recommending available technical design options and assisting Seneca with vendor and ISP negotiations and selection. The project is still underway and we are looking forward to rolling out a strong and resilient network for Seneca’s Steamburg Community.
Tilson partners with public and private sector community leadership to plan, design, construct, and maintain viable and cost-effective broadband networks that are essential to communities’ safety, economy, health, and quality of life.
