Tilson Hires Outgoing Maine Public Utilities Advocate, Tim Schneider

For Immediate Release
15/06/2017

PORTLAND, Maine (June 15, 2017) ― Tilson, an award-winning national IT services, network deployment and consulting firm, has welcomed Tim Schneider as general counsel and principal consultant, effective July 24, 2017.

Schneider joins Tilson following a four-year gubernatorial appointment as the State of Maine’s Public Advocate, where he successfully represented Maine utility consumers before the Public Utilities Commission to ensure affordable, high-quality utility services. Prior to public service, Schneider was an attorney in the energy practice at Pierce Atwood, LLP, where he was named a 2012 Chambers USA Associate to Watch in Maine for Energy & Natural Resources law.

In his new role at Tilson, Schneider will serve as general counsel and principal consultant, representing Tilson before state and federal regulatory bodies, as well as advising clients as a consultant on a host of complex matters including broadband infrastructure development, right-of-way and pole attachment laws, transmission line siting, eminent domain, among others.

“Tim brings invaluable telecom and energy regulatory and team leadership experience to Tilson at just the right time, as our company continues to grow quickly and serve clients nationally in the public and the private sectors,” said Joshua Broder, CEO of Tilson. “Tim’s expertise and knack for coalition-building will greatly complement our current capabilities, bolster our management team, and further position Tilson as a trusted provider of infrastructure consulting and network deployment services.”

As Public Advocate, Schneider led legislative efforts to expand broadband access in Maine, including reforms to pole attachment rules. He personally served as lead attorney on several high-profile cases before the Public Utilities Commission, such as a review of the purchase of up to $75 million per year in natural gas pipeline capacity on behalf of Maine ratepayers. He also previously served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates, working to develop consumer-oriented approaches to broadband expansion and support for distributed generation.

“It’s been a privilege and an honor to serve the people of Maine these past four years,” said Schneider. “I’m excited to bring my skills and experience to bear on a new and different set of challenges at Tilson, working with industry leaders to advance our nation’s infrastructure and create opportunities for growth here in Maine and nationally.”

Schneider volunteers on several boards, including The Telling Room and Friends of Nash Island Light. He received his B.A. magna cum laude in Social Studies from Harvard University and his J.D. from New York University School of Law. He resides in Portland, Maine, with his family.
