As part of our celebration of Tower Tech Appreciation Day on May 8th, we’re highlighting members of our tower team for our May Tilson Tuesdays employee spotlights. This week, meet Tilson’s Tower Foreman Matthew Saltzmann.
As a tower foreman, Matthew supervises and coordinates the installation, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications towers and wireless equipment. While his job includes quality control and meeting project deadlines, Matthew keeps a focus on doing the work safely for his team and for the public.
For Matthew, the work is more enjoyable when it presents a challenge or provides new experiences. His favorite project sites are the ones that the team builds turnkey, meaning they are involved in all aspects of a site from design to installation.
“It is rewarding when you finish a site and know you were a part of every aspect of the site construction,” Matthew said.
When asked about what it’s like working for Tilson, Matthew says he enjoys Tilson because they “take good care of their employees and do a good job with work-life balance.” He also values the opportunities to grow at Tilson, adding, “Tilson supplies all the resources we could ever need to be successful and invests a lot to keep their employees safe. I also appreciate that I am supported in taking a training course to obtain an electrician’s license.”
Originally from Illinois, Matthew now lives in Florida and takes advantage of the warmer weather by spending time with his daughter in the pool (she swims while he floats). They have a small farm at home with two bulldogs, Bella and Doughboy, two cockatiels, Spike and Nanners, and two parakeets, Dunkin and Doughnut.
Fun fact: Matthew has a woodworking shop in his garage where he builds furniture and cabinets.
