Attention to Detail Drives Fast, On-Budget Broadband Wi-Fi Deployment for Keesler Air Force Base Barracks
Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi is home to the 81st Training Wing. It’s a premier training center, with an annual enrollment of more than 28,000 students. Today’s service personnel need Internet connectivity to succeed academically and stay connected to their families.
Boingo offers Wi-Fi Internet, VoIP and IPTV tailored for military bases, and recently engaged Tilson to bring Wi-Fi connectivity to Keesler’s 2,500-bed barracks complex.
Tilson’s experience with structured cabling, microwave installation and large-scale Wi-Fi was a perfect fit for the project. In addition, building codes for military housing require that special attention is paid to electrical grounding, as well as the design and proper application of firestop on wall, ceiling and floor penetrations, helping to increase safety. Tilson also needed to ensure that building shell penetrations were the right size and durably waterproof.
Tilson’s network installation team completed the project in a month by combining local cabling technicians with Tilson radio frequency technicians, BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designers (RCDD), project managers and quality assurance team members. All were military veterans, experienced working on military bases.
Tilson’s network deployment team installed Wi-Fi access points, connected by the structured cabling and microwave links. The solution also called for rapid construction, and Tilson met tight schedule requirements and stayed within the project’s budget.
Attention to Detail is Key
