Tilson expands with acquisition, a dozen hires, and new facilities
February 22, 2013, Portland Maine: Tilson, a Portland, Maine headquartered IT and telecom services company recently expanded its Northeastern wireless construction business unit by bringing on six new Maine based tower climbers and taking on a large network deployment in New York.
In a separate deal, Tilson acquired the assets and hired the team of a Southeastern wireless construction company headquartered in Foley, Alabama. The deal included a new warehouse, garage, and laydown area in Foley, local fleet vehicles, as well as immediate deployments for cellular and microwave sites in Northern Florida.
With this expansion, Tilson adds staff in Maine, New York, Alabama, North Carolina and Ohio.
According to Tilson President Joshua Broder, “Tilson is committed to expanding our capacity to help network owners deploy and maintain their existing facilities, to improve cellular and broadband service. With cellular carriers deploying 4G/LTE facilities, and other telecom providers and utility operators graduating to higher broadband speeds, we are working hard to provide the necessary deployment resources for our customers. We are also excited to grow our operations in the Southeast with a seasoned, well respected team. Foley, Alabama is within easy striking distance of the Carolinas, Houston, TX, Jacksonville, FL, and several military bases where we serve our federal customers. For big jobs, our teams in both regions can join forces.”
As part of Tilson’s expansion in the Northeast, Dean Graffam, a New England telecom veteran, has taken on the Northeast operations management. In the Southeast, James “Jim” Quinn, another seasoned construction manager and leader is serving as the Southeast Operations Manager. Both managers are veterans of the United States Marine Corps, and are ComTrain certified tower climbing instructors, with a focus on building exceptional, tenured tower climbing teams with attention to detail and safety. “In wireless construction, experienced, driven regional deployment managers are the backbone to maintaining measurable safety standards and fast deployments as they perform within constrained wireless operational budgets and compressed schedules” said Broder.
Tilson recently completed successful site acquisition and construction projects for new cellular sites in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New York, and New Hampshire as well as the deployment of distributed antenna systems (DAS) in the tunnels under Boston. Broder noted “that we needed additional resources to keep up with our customer’s aggressive schedules and geographic breadth of their deployments. Our addition of staff in the Northeast, and acquisition of a team in the Southeast do just that.”
