Each summer, Tilson offers a 16-week paid internship program for undergraduate students that provides hands-on career experience both in the field and in the office. While the specific tasks may vary, every intern benefits from personalized coaching and plays a role in impactful projects that they can be proud of by the end of the program.
Our interns also participate in weekly meetings called “Coffee Talks” led by our dedicated Workforce Programs Manager, Rennie Onders. This weekly session provides an opportunity for interns to ask questions and learn about other projects happening around the company. At the end of each summer, our interns share their experiences and insights with the team during a final presentation. We’re always impressed by the depth of their learning and the contributions they’ve made.
This month, we’re celebrating the achievements of this year’s nine summer interns as we say “goodbye” and best of luck in the school year ahead!
Tilson internship program caters to a wide range of academic backgrounds and areas of study. In 2024, we welcomed nine interns across our outside plant, engineering, government affairs, business development, marketing, wireless, IT, Network Operations Center (NOC), Tilson Infrastructure, special operations, and project controls divisions.
No matter the team or project, our aim is to ensure every intern has a rewarding experience. This includes:
“I’m a GIS major so I do a lot of things working with GIS software, but this was doing it for a purpose. I got to work on a project that was actually used and that was impactful.” Logan Cisneros, Tilson Engineering intern
“Everyone was supportive and kind and wanted me to grow in the space where I was. I was blown away by how involved everyone was and I learned so much.” Tori Baker, Tilson Marketing and Public Affairs intern
In one example, Owen Henley, an intern for Special Operations, analyzed data and created a weekly safety report. From these reports, Owen was able to recommend action that resulted in the direct and immediate reduction of a specific safety incident.
“Since Safety is the core value at Tilson, I knew this was a very important project. Being able to embody this core value in my work was powerful, and seeing my quantifiable impact was rewarding.” Owen Henley, Tilson Special Operations intern
Owen’s mentor at Tilson agreed. “It’s a real impact that Owen directly contributed to. We will continue to carry Owen’s torch even after he leaves,” said Jeremy Vetter, National Program Manager of Special Operations.
Year after year, we aim to give our interns meaningful experiences that boost their careers and open new doors for them. We often have interns return for a second year, as was the case with two students this summer, and frequently have interns apply to work at Tilson once they graduate.
“We are so grateful to our interns. I thank each of you for the contributions you’ve made – these efforts make a real difference and drive Tilson forward. We hope your internships were as valuable to you as they were for us.” Rennie Onders, Manager of Tilson Workforce Programs
Tilson opens applications for summer interns at the end of the calendar year and they are open to any active student pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in the United States. Bookmark our summer internship page and check back in December to apply for one of our paid, summer internships.
Tilson also offers year-round SkillBridge internships for active-duty service members transitioning from the military to civilian careers. Learn more here.
