For this week’s Tilson Tuesdays employee highlight, meet Patrick Durkin!
Patrick has been with Tilson for over two years and works as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist within our Technology division. His main focus is gathering and analyzing data to produce visualizations in the form of maps, Google Earth files, and interactive Web Map applications. This information is then used by our Broadband Consulting team to make informed network design decisions as well as to help clients understand complex information in a visually appealing way.
One of his most memorable projects with Tilson was helping to map areas of interest for a broadband project with the state of Colorado. As part of this work, the GIS team invented a mapping solution from scratch that helped target select recipients for federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act Capital Project Funds.
Patrick appreciates Tilson’s work-life balance which supports each employee’s individual life. “I enjoy Tilson’s open-minded approach to remote work and cross-collaboration with team members located across the country,” he said. “Tilson’s willingness to invest in its people is inspiring and pushes me to work hard,” he said. “A company where employees are taken care of is a company where employees are happy and driven to contribute!”
In his personal life, Patrick keeps busy with a wide range of hobbies, including hiking, photography, reading, cooking, and spending time with his friends and family. He also loves to travel, having been fortunate to visit 14 different countries as an adult. Next on his bucket list are Taiwan and Brazil. Originally from Maryland, Patrick has lived in Phoenix, Philadelphia, Austin, and Chicago, before settling in Los Angeles.
Fun fact: When learning to swim as a child, his dad quoted Franklin D. Roosevelt, saying, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” That quote has stuck with Patrick throughout his life and pushes him to take chances and try new experiences.
