For all of May, we’re featuring members of our Wireless team for our Tilson Tuesdays employee spotlights as we celebrate Tower Tech Appreciation Day. This week, meet Jonathan Ochoa Ibarra!
Jonathan is a Tower Foreman based out of our Las Cruces, New Mexico, office and has been with us for over a year and half. In his own words, his job is to “keep people connected.” Specifically, he works with his team to build new cellular sites and maintain and upgrade existing towers, which provides communities with the infrastructure they need to stay connected.
Jonathan says the hardest part about being a tower tech is time spent away from family, but he appreciates working at Tilson because “it has given me the opportunity to spend more time with my family because when working at Tilson, they make sure we come home when given the opportunity.” He went on to add that “Tilson is a family-oriented company, and everyone is very welcoming and always looking out for one another.”
In Jonathan’s opinion, the most important skill a tower technician needs to have is communication, since they need to know how to effectively communicate with their team to make sure everyone is aligned and working together safely.
Outside of work, Jonathan likes to spend as much time as possible with his family. One of his favorite things is to go out to eat as a family or do a family game night. The first thing he does when getting home from a day of work is often to go for a walk with his kids and his dog Geo.
Fun fact: Jonathan was born and raised in Zacatecas, Mexico, and moved to the Chicago when he was sixteen years old.
