For Immediate Release
PLYMOUTH, New Hampshire (10/07/2020). Tilson, a national network development and information infrastructure professional services firm, was selected by the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) under the federal CARES Act to be the full-service provider of design and construction to expand broadband access to hundreds of underserved residents in rural towns. As part of the broadband access project, Tilson will build a new fiber network that will provide fiber to the premises (FTTP), with internet service options of 1 gigabit per second.
Through the Connecting New Hampshire Emergency Broadband Expansion Program (Connecting NH Program), the $50 million state initiative funded through the CARES Act aims to expand high speed internet access to underserved areas of New Hampshire. The second round of funding will provide broadband access to members that are supplied electricity by the NHEC in the towns of Colebrook, Stewartstown, Clarksville, and Lempster. CARES Act broadband projects in New Hampshire require design, logistics, and construction expertise, as they must be completed by December 15, 2020.
“Building networks to provide underserved communities with affordable, reliable, high speed internet is Tilson’s core mission,” said Kelly Brewer, Tilson COO. “We’re proud to partner with NHEC to support this critical initiative for the people living and working in rural New Hampshire.”
“Tilson’s commitment to meet the CARES Act’s tight timeframes and its ability to overcome unexpected challenges have made this critical project possible,” said Steve Camerino, President and CEO of NHEC. “Through this partnership with Tilson, we expect to be able to provide nearly 1,000 unserved NHEC members with broadband internet access by the end of the year. Tilson’s ability to think creatively and work through issues with NHEC has been a real asset to the project.”
