TILSON AWARDED MORE THAN $3.7M TO DELIVER
BROADBAND TO HOMES IN RURAL VERMONT

MONTPELIER, Vermont (11/03/2020). Tilson, a national network development and information infrastructure professional services firm, was awarded two grants in Rounds 2 and 3 of the Vermont Department of Public Service (PSD) COVID-19 Emergency Connectivity Initiative and Get Vermonters Connected Now Initiative (GVCNI). Under the terms of its Round 2 grant agreement, Tilson will receive $1.79M to deploy a new fiber network to deliver high-speed broadband to 360 unserved residences in the towns of Danville, Lunenburg, and St. Johnsbury, Vermont. In its Round 3 grant, Tilson will leverage its $1.94M award to serve 217 additional locations in West Danville.

The mission of Vermont’s COVID-19 Emergency Connectivity Initiative is to leverage Federal Coronavirus Relief Funds to build high-speed broadband service to unserved and underserved locations by December 30, 2020. The funds are targeted at locations lacking 25/3 Mbps (download/upload) broadband service that require broadband for K-12 student education, remote work, and access to telehealth resources.

“In addition to sickening millions and killing hundreds of thousands, the COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted education, impacted jobs, and disrupted home life for every American,” said Joshua Broder, Tilson CEO. “Access to reliable, high-speed broadband at home will help address the challenges of remote education, support clear audio- and video-conferencing, and provide access to telemedicine appointments. I’m thrilled that Tilson and the other grantees awarded by the PSD have the opportunity to bring the benefits of high-speed broadband to these residents of Vermont.”

“As Vermonters adapt to working, learning, and receiving healthcare remotely, broadband internet service has become even more of an essential part of everyday life,” said June Tierney, Commissioner of the Department of Public Service, in a press release issued by the PSD. “Through the Connectivity Initiative and the Get Vermonters Connected Now Initiative, the Department and Internet Service Providers are bringing much-needed broadband service to underserved locations.”

Tilson will also offer broadband service to homes and businesses adjacent to the grant areas, bringing high-speed broadband access to other locations in these towns and portions of neighboring communities.
