Understanding the Construction Restoration Process: The Bumpy (and Messy) Road to Better Internet

Construction is messy, and there’s no way around it. It’s disruptive, there’s noise from heavy equipment, dirt is everywhere, and the constant digging that can make it seem like the whole neighborhood is torn up. Whether it’s your sidewalk, roadway, or even your yard and sprinkler system, we understand it can be very frustrating.

One of the biggest concerns we hear from homeowners is who’s going to fix everything and how long it will take. That’s a great question, and we want to be clear: once the construction is finished, our goal is to restore everything to the way it was before we started. While the process may be messy now, it’s all for a bigger purpose—bringing you faster, more reliable internet that will serve you and your community for years to come.

Minimizing Disruption

We’re committed to improving the way we handle the construction process from start to finish by continuously learning from our past experience and refining our methods to minimize disruption and delivering better results for homeowners and communities. We’re using newer, more efficient techniques like microtrenching and horizontal directional drilling to reduce the mess and speed up the work. This equipment allows us to do the job faster, with smaller holes and less digging, which means less disruption for you. Still, we understand that even with these improvements, things can get messy for a short period of time.

This work we do is in the right of way and with all the necessary permits and approvals from the local municipality. To safely install the fiber network, we need to dig holes to locate existing utilities like gas, water, and electricity. This helps ensure we don’t interfere with any underground systems while we work. We also dig trenches to lay down the fiber conduit, which is the pathway for the new high-speed internet. We understand it’s not ideal right now, but these steps are necessary to make sure everything is done properly and safely.

Our Commitment to Restoration

Tilson takes care to restore and repair any areas impacted by construction to their original condition. This includes fixing concrete, asphalt, gravel, and any other repairs. Many of our team members live in the same communities where we work, so we understand the importance of being good neighbors and making sure everything is returned to its proper state.

Depending on the time of year and the type of work being done, restoration can take some time. In colder climates, for example, we might need to wait until the spring to reseed grass, replace plants, or fully repair sidewalks. We don’t rush the restoration process because we want to make sure everything is done properly. Once all restoration work is finished, the city or municipality will conduct a final inspection to ensure everything has been properly restored. After that, the mess will be cleared away, and the only thing left will be the fast, reliable fiber internet that will enhance your daily life.

For Your Safety

Your safety, along with the safety of our crew, is our top priority. We take every precaution to ensure both you and your neighborhood stay safe throughout the construction and restoration process. To help us maintain this, please keep the following in mind:

  1. Never enter a work site, active or inactive.
  2. If you need to speak with someone on the job site, get their attention and let them come to you or wait for them to signal you over.
  3. Don’t remove or move boards or plastic covers on the ground – they are there to temporarily cover holes until we can finish restoration work.

If you have questions about the construction in your area or are concerned about specific repairs, please contact our team. We’re doing everything we can to limit the inconvenience, and we’re committed to making sure that, when we’re done, you’ll be left with an upgraded neighborhood that looks great and runs even better with faster internet.
