PORTLAND, Maine (February 5, 2018) ― Tilson Director of Engineering Kelly Brewer has been named a “Top Young Professional” in New England by Engineering News-Record, the magazine of record for stakeholders in the commercial engineering and construction industries since 1917. The magazine’s Top Young Professional award honors individuals who have built extraordinary industry portfolios in just a few short years.
Brewer is one of just 11 professionals from the New England region to be recognized this year. She was nominated for her bootstrapping spirit and natural ability to see projects through to completion on time and under budget, regardless of prior experience, and for setting an example for women in the typically male-dominated engineering and construction fields.
“Kelly is a role model in so many ways; as a first-generation college graduate, as a working mother, as an advisor and educator in the public university system, and as a team leader in our company – all at just 28!” said Tilson CEO Joshua Broder. “I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Kelly, and I am very proud to call her a member of the Tilson team.”
The daughter of a residential contractor and the first in her family to attend college, Brewer’s lifelong love for construction motivated her to pay her own way through school working for Milton CAT construction equipment and later Pike Industries. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine in 2010, joined Tilson in 2011, and later earned her MBA from Mississippi State University.
Today, Brewer leads one of Tilson’s largest business segments in the engineering division, overseeing more than 100 employees across 17 offices from Maine to Los Angeles, all while raising her two children, working as adjunct faculty in the University of Southern Maine Department of Technology, and volunteering on the Department’s Advisory Board. She resides in Gray, Maine with her family.
Brewer will be profiled in the May 2018 issue of Engineering News-Record New England.
